Classic American Architecture by VH

Verandah House

It’s by far the most rewarding part of any designer’s journey, that final moment when you get to see the vision of a project come to life, all the details that make a home truly magical. We have worked on this home since concept stage, when you get involved in a project long enough you know all it’s intricacies, you get to know the home and you can visualise and see just how it should be. A house like this however takes a team of the very best, it truly makes the entire process far more seamless, it seems to come together in just the way you hoped it would. Whilst it wasn’t built for a specific family we were grateful we had total freedom to push some design boundaries, but always staying mindful that we stay true to the aesthetic and brief to keep the home classic, timeless and appealing to all. We hope once sold to its new family, we can then fill this home with the decoration it so deserves.

Here we explore this home that embodies detail, design and supreme architecture. Part 1.

Architect: Jared Poole Designs
Builder: Richard Parsons Constructions
Interior Design & Decoration: Verandah House

Whilst this home was designed with all its intricate details by the fabulous Jared Poole (We are his biggest fans, but don’t tell him that!) however it’s Richard Parsons and his amazing cabinetmaker and team of trades, the attention to detail, his perfectionism and kind, generous manner that made the entire build process so much more enjoyable, his workmanship is outstanding. To our clients who engaged us on this project - we are forever grateful our paths crossed years ago and they have always given us so much creative freedom to do our best work, they are the best, this is our third project together.

We definitely caused some attention with the tradesman on site with the colours we selected for the joinery throughout the home, for those who know us well, we have a love of the colours blue and green in all its shades and after all it seems fitting that when you look outside each window of this home, all you see is blue skies and lots of green land and trees.

We experimented with lots of shades of blue but we loved this shade the best, we could have been really bold and painted the entire kitchen blue, which was tempting, but we are so glad now we had some restraint and decided on just keeping the island bench the feature blue.

You asked and we answered:

The Island Bench: Porters Paints Explorer Blue

The Kitchen and Butlers: Resene Alabaster

Splash Back Handmade Tiles: Elite Bathroom

Lighting: Can be purchased through Montauk Lighting

Hardware: our go to source is Hepburn Hardware

The Mudroom colour seemed an obvious choice, it had to be anything else but white and from all the DM’s we received on social media it was clearly loved by so many of you too, even if Richard our builder was not so sure about this bold choice at first, I think its now grown on him too lol.

The Mudroom Colour: Dulux Bay Leaf

Now for the laundry, oh how much fun did we have here, Laundry’s are normally no fun, after all most times there are piles of washing and baskets of ironing, so we decided to have fun with colour and brighten even the dullest washing day, first we selected encaustic hand-painted tiles for the floors, Lewis and Wood check fabric on the blinds and we couldn’t resist painting the joinery, you guessed it blue! We loved styling the laundry with products from Alfresco Emporium.

Our inspiration started with the floors, we love using encaustic tiles and this pattern is a favourite of ours, we then painted the joinery, Porters Paints - Jodphur Blue it’s actually a tad lighter than the images but still a striking blue.

We love adding moulding detail to all our joinery designs and this powder room (right image) was no exception. We selected a sage green marble tile and complimented the walls with Anna Spiro Textiles wallpaper in a tiny soft green pattern. The powder room to the left with its featured wallpaper makes this smaller space pop! We hope you enjoyed this post.

Wishing you a fabulous weekend,
Judy & Jess
