Nautical Boy's Bedroom by VH
A Boy’s Bedroom
It was one of those exciting designer moments when we had creative freedom to design a very special boy’s bedroom last year. Children’s rooms are always so fun to create but this project was extra special. Our young male client knew exactly what he wanted, his love of sport, the colour blue and a place to show his collectibles and love of reading books were important features to him. His parents wanted a room that could easily adapt to his older years and that treasured gifts such as his blanket and his teddy bear, had to be taken into consideration. We couldn’t find the right desk, so we custom made the desk and boat ores to suit the space, both clients were very happy with the final reveal.
We used RL wall lights that can be purchased from Montauk Lighting and the chair was custom made in RL fabric. Accessories provided by VH. Custom made Oars by Australian Nautical Style and Hardware by Gregory Croxford Living.
We wallpapered all the walls in the room in a classic Ralph Lauren Wallpaper to complement the striped curtains. The bedhead and valance were made with a stunning cobalt blue linen fabric with studding detail. We flanged the cushions rather than piping in a striking orange, a combination of RL check and stripe fabrics were a great addition to our scheme. Now, this lucky man was gifted a Hermes blanket so it was a no brainer orange was going to be our accent colour of choice for his room.
We always create a mood board for every room we present to our clients, we often do this both virtually and provide tear sheets, fabric, and timber samples at our presentation. This really helped our young client visualize how his room was going to look, his parents loved the vision too and the project speaks for itself.
A room with the best view, looking out to the backyard and river beyond. We selected a classic William Yeoward piece that our young client could keep forever, a striking RL lamp and vintage boat. We sourced vintage books on sports and orange leather-bound books that now make perfect journals.
We loved sourcing unique finds, like this vintage soccer ball from Etsy, and using his leggo and books to decorate. It was such a fun project, the reveal moment is always the most rewarding part, our little client was very happy, it makes all the hard work worth it! We hope you enjoyed this weeks post.
All our love to you.
