The potential to decorate with books is limitless, not only are books interesting and enjoyable to collect and read; they are a sure way to add personality and soul to any home interior.
Whether you have a bookcase filled with inspiring reads or treasured finds, books are never on trend but always timeless. I could get lost for hours reading books, whether it’s a novel or a book filled with gardening ideas or great recipes, whether I’m learning or just feeling inspired, there is something uniquely beautiful about the art of sitting still long enough to enjoy life simplest pleasures. Books enrich our lives, but they are also a designer’s best friend when styling your home. Whilst we traditionally think of styling our books on shelves or stacked in curated piles on our coffee tables, we thought we would share some clever ways designers style books in their own homes.
A round table always makes a statement in an entry, a mix of candle holders, flowers and small stacks of books adds a welcoming entrance to your home that is simple to achieve. We love how Designer Lynda Kerry decorated her dining table with ginger jars soldering her dining table and topped with beautiful books effortlessly displayed.
Stacking
Books don’t need to be confined to shelves. A pile of your favourite books can be stacked on a decorative chair or on a stool, styled in unexpected ways, add a small bowl or a large shell for a layered look.
Stacking books in unusual places is half the fun, try stacking books next to your sofa rather than on a side table or on your ottoman, mixing books with interesting objects and leaning art adds instant wow factor.
Coffee tables are a great place to show off your favourite books, we always select the nicest covers that also compliment the interiors of the room. Layer the largest books down first and you can then add smaller books, top with a decorative box or something interesting to create a collected and styled look to your table.
